College Basketball: Rockers a nominee

For the 2015 Allstate Good Works Teams

Columbia College men's basketball player Zach Rockers was recently selected as one of 251 nominees for the 2015 Allstate Good Works Teams, announced by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Allstate Insurance Company.

The award recognizes a select group of college basketball student-athletes who have made significant contributions to their communities through volunteerism and civic service.

Rockers, a senior guard from Helias High School, has excelled on and off the court since joining the Cougars in 2011. Rockers averaged 8.2 points during the 2012-13 campaign but was limited to two games the following season after suffering a foot injury.

Rockers, who is majoring in business administration and management, currently carries a 4.0 GPA and was one of three co-founders and leaders of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Columbia College. He worked with the Cole County Department of Corrections as a jail minister.

Rockers also works with Special Olympics of Missouri, where he coaches bowling, basketball and golf.
