Ward winners named in Christmas lighting contest

The first- and second-place ward winners in the 28th annual Christmas Home Decorating Contest have been announced.

The annual contest is sponsored by the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department, the News Tribune and Cottonstone Art Gallery and Frame Shop.

In each ward, a first- and second-place winner was selected for five contest categories. The categories include: City's Best, Best Use of Characters, Christmas Elegance, Best Religious Display and Best Use of Lights.

The first-place ward winners compete with each other during a second round of judging, which took place Saturday evening and tonight. One Mayor's Award winner will be chosen for each category.

Mayor's Award winners will be announced in the Dec. 21 edition of the News Tribune.

A People's Choice ballot was published in the Dec. 9 edition of the News Tribune, and it included a map with a list of all entrants. People's Choice ballots must be mailed or hand-delivered to the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department, 427 Monroe St., by 5 p.m. Wednesday.
