Officer shoots woman while being dragged by car

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A Kansas City police officer is recovering from his injuries from a confrontation in which he shot a woman who was dragging him around with her car.

Police spokesman Tye Grant says the officer tried to make a traffic stop around 8 p.m. Friday when a man in the car jumped out and fled.

The Kansas City Star (http://bit.ly/1IMC8WU) reports the officer tried to detain the woman driving the car, but she jumped back into the vehicle and drove off.

Police say the officer was caught in the driver's side door and shot the woman as she dragged him around the Price Chopper parking lot.

Grant says the vehicle struck a pole and the woman tried to run but was apprehended. He says her wounds don't appear to be life-threatening.
