JC couple charged with stealing mail

A Jefferson City man and woman have been charged in connection with the theft of multiple pieces of mail belonging to several individuals in Cole County.

Court records show Travis Jaegers, 29, 6500 Eichholz Road, is charged with three counts of forgery and one count of stealing.

Jill Pittman, 35, 3614 Glovers Ford Road, is charged with forgery and receiving stolen property.

A Cole County Sheriff's Department probable cause statement shows the Moniteau County Sheriff's Department contacted Cole County to inform them that Jaegers and Pittman were taken into custody for burglarizing a home in Moniteau County earlier this month and they may be tied into the theft of mail in Cole County.

A search of the vehicle the two were in when they were picked up for the burglary found several pieces of mail belonging to residents throughout Cole County.

Jaegers eventually admitted he had been stealing mail for an unknown amount of time, and he and Pittman had taken boxes of checks from the mail thefts and used them at businesses in Cole County.

When talking with Pittman, she admitted she took mail from a neighbor's mail box.

Further investigation showed Jaegers and Pittman on security camera footage passing stolen checks in a couple of businesses in Cole County.
