COLUMBIA, Mo. - After having two matches postponed due to the heat, the Helias Lady Crusaders finally started the season Thursday with a 6-3 victory against the Battle Spartans.
The match opened with doubles. Winning for Helias were the teams of Ashley Dowden and Mary Conley (8-4) and Abby Dowden and Lauren Highfill (8-2). Liz Conley and Emmy Theroff lost 8-4.
Winning in singles for the Lady Crusaders were Ashley Dowden (8-5), Mary Conley (8-1) Megan Villanueava (8-5) and Cassidy Roling (8-2). Losing were Abby Dowden (8-6) and Highfill (8-6).
Helias will play Tuesday at home against Fulton.
On Thursday, Helias won seven junior varsity doubles matches against Battle.
