PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Obafemi Martins had two goals and assisted on a score for Clint Dempsey, and the Seattle Sounders beat the Portland Timbers 4-2 in a Cascadia Cup rivalry match on Sunday.

Chad Barrett also scored for the Sounders, who showed little fatigue after five matches in the past 15 days. Fanendo Adi scored twice for the Timbers.

The victory moved the Sounders ahead of the Vancouver Whitecaps in the standings for the Pacific Northwest's Cascadia Cup, the supporter-created rivalry between the three teams. The Timbers were effectively eliminated from the Cup race with the loss.

With just nine games left, the loss also hurts Portland's bid to return to the MLS playoffs after advancing to the Western Conference finals last year.

The Sounders (14-7-3) are currently in first place in conference, while the Timbers (7-8-10) sit in sixth behind the Whitecaps.

UNION 4, EARTHQUAKES 2

CHESTER, Pa. (AP) - Sheanon Williams scored the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute to help the Union get the win.

Williams' goal came 2 minutes after San Jose had erased a two-goal deficit on Chris Wondolowski's score in the 70th minute.

Andrew Wenger added a breakaway goal in the 79th minute for Philadelphia (7-9-9). Wenger also opened the scoring in the 10th minute on a smash into the top corner, assisted by Sebastien Le Toux.

Le Toux followed 4 minutes later with his own goal for a 2-0 lead, capitalizing on a weak clearance attempt by San Jose (6-10-7).

Sam Cronin got the Quakes on the board with a half-volley rocket into the top corner from well beyond the penalty box in the 59th minute.
