Double the fun for basketball Tigers

Men-women doubleheader in Kansas City

COLUMBIA, Mo. - A Dec. 30 appearance at the Sprint Center in Kansas City just became twice as nice for Missouri basketball fans.

That had previously been announced as the date for a meeting between the Missouri and Oklahoma State men's basketball teams.

On Thursday, the date became a doubleheader when Missouri announced the Tiger women would also play that day, taking on the Missouri State Lady Bears.

Game times will be announced later by the Southeastern Conference and ESPN, but the men's game will start four hours after the start time of the women's game.

"We are excited about the opportunity to play in Kansas City at the Sprint Center in a doubleheader with our men's team," Missouri women's head coach Robin Pingeton said. "The support of our Mizzou fans in that area is tremendous and we expect an exciting environment playing an in-state rivalry game with Missouri State."

The Tigers lead the Lady Bears 17-9 in the all-time sreies, with Missouri State winning the last meeting, a 67-53 victory on Dec. 19, 2013, in Springfield.

"I believe the Missouri versus Missouri State matchup is a positive game on our schedule," Missouri State coach Kellie Harper said. "Our Lady Bear fans get excited about the in-state rivalry. We know that it is a competitive and challenging game, and playing in Kansas City gives us an opportunity to play in front of a new audience."

Ticket sales for the general public begin Aug. 18.
