Cole County zoning vote followed a simple path

Proposal failed in county, passed with city voters

A proposal for zoning in Cole County was defeated in Tuesday's primary elections, but a closer look at the vote totals show Jefferson City voters largely supported the measure.

Unofficial results from the Cole County clerk show that the zoning question actually passed in the city, in all but two precincts - Ward 1, Precinct 2, where it failed by 38 votes, and Ward 2, Precinct 1, where it failed by 21 votes.

As for county voters, who largely opposed the measure, only one precinct actually approved the zoning proposal - Binder Lake, where voters approved the measure by 42 votes.

Absentee voters also approved the zoning measure by 137 votes.
