Your Opinion: Red alert on farm issue

Dear Editor:

Red alert. This so-called "Right to Farm" amendment (Constitutional Amendment 1) ballot measure does nothing to assist Missouri's local farmers. Instead, it's being advertised by yet again the unsustainably scaled foreign agribusiness interests and ethically challenged politicians who worked to revoke Missouri's anti-puppy mill standards and who make a living out of degrading our lands and waters, putting our health at risk and torturing animals on factory farms.

The Missouri Farmers Union, the Humane Society of Missouri, the League of Women Voters of Missouri, almost every major newspaper in Missouri and leading agricultural economic experts like Dr. John Ikerd urge a no vote on Amendment 1 as this amendment is in actuality a "right to harm" not a "right to farm."

Do the right thing and read between the lines and vote no on Constitutional Amendment 1 on Aug. 5.
