Jays whip Timberland to win baseball tournament

CAMDENTON, Mo. - Jefferson City scored eight runs in the second inning and the Jays went on to claim a 12-2 win against Timberland in six innings in the championship game of the Camdenton-Lebanon Tournament on Saturday.

In three games, Jefferson City tallied 33 hits while improving to 15-5 on the year.

Gabe Marcantonio was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, while Jake and Jackson Walker both had two hits and drove in two runs apiece to lead the Jays in the title game. Rylie Klosterman was 1-for-2 and drove in two runs, while Adam Grunden was 1-for-3 with two RBI to help pace the offense.

Travis Hennessy threw a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking three in six innings.

Jefferson City opened up tournament play with a 6-2 win against Stockton on Friday.

Hayden Strobel had a hit and drove in two runs, while Alex Johnson had two hits and drove in one run. Jake and Jackson Walker both had a hit and an RBI to help lead the Jays at the plate.

Hennessy received the win after throwing the final two innings without allowing a hit or a run and striking out three.

Bret Jaegers got the start for Jefferson City, surrendering one run on four hits, while striking out two and walking two in three innings. Cody Hager also allowed one run on two hits, while striking out two and walking two in two innings.

In the second game of the tournament, the Jays rolled to a 12-1 win against Camdenton in five innings.

Strobel was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, while Jackson Walker, Marcantonio, Klosterman, Brenden Ogletree and Grunden each had two hits and drove in a run to lead the offensive attack.

Jake Walker was the winning pitcher, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out four and walking four in four innings.

Jeremy Light threw a scoreless fifth inning, surrendering two hits.

Jefferson City will host Southern Boone on Monday.
