Thompson's win highlights Blue Tigers' results at Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Monique Thompson win the 1,500-meter run highlighted Lincoln's performances in the Kansas Relays that concluded Saturday.

Thompson won the event in 4:33.25, taking the title by more than three seconds. She also finished fourth (2:11.23) in the 800-meter run.

Janae Johnson of Lincoln took second (23.42) in the 200-meter dash, while Yanique Ellington was sixth (23.99). The two were joined by Judith Riley and Ladonna Richards to finish fourth (47.30) in the 4x100-meter relay.

Other top finishes for the women included:

• Jhevere Hall was fifth (4:41.38) in the 1,500 and eighth (2:13.53) in the 800.

• Richards finished third (13.71) in the 100-meter hurdles.

• Donna-Lee Hylton was fifth (55.50) and Willomena Williams was sixth (56.60) in the 400.

• Tamara Keane was sixth (1:03.89) and Marcia Harrison was eighth (1:04.01) in the 400-meter hurdles.

• Danielle Newman finished seventh (39-81/2) in the triple jump.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Lovan Palmer, Hylton Hall and Williams posted the fastest qualifying time at 3:44.82 in the preliminaries, but did not run in the finals.

On the men's side, Romone Hill posted Lincoln's top finish by taking second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.00. He also paired with Michael Ashley, Stallone Watson and Wesley Best to take sixth (41.41) in the 4x100-meter relay.

Other top finishes for the men included:

• Jermaine Blake finishing sixth (1:54.50) in the 800-meter run.

• Watson taking seventh (14.40) in the 110-meter hurdles.

• Ashley finishing seventh (50.05) in the 400-meter dash.

The Lincoln 4x400-meter relay team of Ashley, Blake, Roger Blake and Winston Edwards was third in the preliminaries (3:13.85), but did not run in the finals.

The Blue Tigers claimed five titles Saturday at the Dewey Allgood Invitational hosted by Missouri S&T in Rolla.

Three of the wins came on the women's side.

Shakeisha Miller was first in the 100-meter hurdles (13.88) to highlight a strong day for her She also finished second in the javelin (113-5) and sixth in the long jump (18-3).

Nickeisha Beaumont won the long jump with a provisional qualifying leap of 19-61/4. She was fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.97).

Juneille Barker claimed the other women's title, taking first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:01.51). Barker was second (13.99) to Miller in the 100-meter hurdles, while Nadia Harriott was fourth (14.77).

Other top women's finishes for Lincoln included:

• Danielle Newman was second (40-63/4) in the triple jump, while Jonelle Campbell was fourth (39-11/4).

• Kimberly Bailey was second (12.39) in the 100-meter dash, while Harriott was fourth (12.60) and Erika Spencer was sixth (12.89).

• Ebony Rose was fourth (2:24.09) in the 800-meter run.

• Rose Akeeba was eighth (5:16.28) in the 1.500-meter run.

On the men's side, Orneldo Thomas of Lincoln took first in the long jump with a leap of 24-51/2 and Neville Daley won the 400-meter dash in 50.07.

Other top men's finishes for Lincoln included:

• Hampton Mayson taking fifth (42-31/2) in the shot put and seventh (127-6) in the discus.

• Nicholus Grant was fourth (51.16) in the 400- and eighth (23.21) in the 200-meter dashes.

• Christian Thompson was sixth (16:16.35) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Lincoln will be back in action at this week's Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. The three-day event begins Thursday.
