Jays go 1-1 at Columbia Duals

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Jefferson City Jays fell to Christian Brother College High School 7-2, but bounced back to claim a 5-4 win against Joplin at the Columbia Duals on Saturday.

CBC took third at state last year, while the Eagles reached the state quarterfinals a season ago.

Spencer Bone claimed a 6-0, 6-3 win against CBC in the No. 3 singles postion, while the No. 2 doubles team of David Clausen and Joey Mendez earned a 8-3 victory.

In singles, Clausen lost 1-6, 2-6; David Steinmeyer lost 2-6, 1-6; Dane Biesemeyer lost 4-6, 7-5, 4-10; Mendez lost 3-6, 2-6 and Josh Morris lost 2-6, 3-6.

In doubles, Steinmeyer and Bone lost 4-8, while Biesemeyer and Morris were defeated 3-8.

Bone, Medez and Morris all won their singles matches against Joplin, while the doubles teams of Clausen and Mendez and Biesemeyer and Morris were also victorious against the Eagles.

In singles, Clausen lost 2-6, 1-6; Steinmeyer lost 6-7, 1-6; Bone won 6-4, 6-0; Biesemeyer lost 4-6, 4-6; Mendez won 6-1, 6-0 and Mors won 6-7, 6-1 and 10-8 in a match tiebreaker.

In doubles, Steinmeyer and Bone lost 5-7, 3-6; Clausen and Mendez won 6-1, 6-1 and Biesemeyer and Morris won 6-3, 6-4.

Jefferson City will play at Hickman on Monday.
