Columbia sweeps doubleheader

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Columbia College picked up its second doubleheader sweep in two days with a pair of wins at Benedictine University-Springfield on Saturday.

The Cougars combined for 14 hits in a 10-1 win in Game 1, before holding on to a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.

Marli Hayes (Jefferson City High School) had three hits and drove in a run, while Kristin Eiken (Blair Oaks High School) tallied two hits and two RBI to help lead Columbia at the plate.

Whitni Howell (Jefferson City High School) came up with two hits and an RBI, while Paige Kleffner was 1-for-1 at the dish to help pace the Cougars.

Columbia, 22-11 overall and 14-2 in the American Midwest Conference, will take on crosstown foe Stephens College today in a conference doubleheader after the teams were rained out on April 8. The two squads will resume their first game in the second inning, starting at 11 a.m. at American Legion Park.
