Columbia College splits

COLUMBIA - The Columbia Cougars split an American Midwest Conference doubleheader against Missouri Baptist on Tuesday.

The Cougars earned a 7-6 win in Game 1, before dropping a 7-6 decision in the nightcap.

Kristin Eiken (Blair Oaks High School) scored the game-winning run from third base after a dropped third strike and Paxton Welch (Helias High Schoo) picked up the victory after throwing two scoreless innings in the opener.

Urwiler also allowed no earned runs on five hits in two innings for the Cougars in Game 1.

Marli Hayes (Jefferson City High School) was 4-for-7 with an RBI on the day to lead Columbia on the offensive end.

The Cougars (18-11, 10-2 AMC) will play at Hannibal-LaGrange on Friday. The first pitch of the conference doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
