PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Clint Dempsey scored a hat trick, including two goals in the final five minutes of the match and the Seattle Sounders staged a furious late rally to pull out a 4-4 draw with the rival Portland Timbers on Saturday.
Trailing 4-2 for most of the second half after goals from Diego Chara and Maximiliano Urruti early in the half gave Portland the advantage, Dempsey led Seattle's stunning late comeback to earn a point in the first Cascadia rivalry matchup of the season.
Dempsey scored in the 85th minute to get Seattle within 4-3. Seconds later Seattle defender DeAndre Yedlin was taken down in the penalty box by Portland's Ben Zemanski. Referee Hilario Grajeda immediately pointed to the penalty spot and Dempsey converted the chance to get Seattle even.
Dempsey recorded the fourth hat trick in Sounders history and upstaged a career day from Chara with two goals, his first in MLS play since 2011. Diego Valeri also scored for Portland
Kenny Cooper also scored in the third minute against his old club to give Seattle an early advantage.
FC DALLAS 4, DYNAMO 1
HOUSTON (AP) - Je-Vaughn Watson scored two second-half goals to F.C. Dallas beat the Houston Dynamo 4-1 Saturday.
After a red card to Houston defender David Horst, the former Dynamo midfielder scored in 61st and 70th minute on either side of Giles Barnes' own-goal in the 68th minute.
Michel put converted a penalty in the 31st minute after Ricardo Clark's foul on Mauro Diaz. In the 41st minute, Clark made up for his mistake by scoring on a header off Brad Davis's free kick to tie the game at 1.
Davis, a U.S. World Cup hopeful, drew the foul that led to the free kick and left the match with a right leg injury as a result. Horst will miss Houston's next game at the New England Revolution.
REAL SALT LAKE 0, SPORTING KC 0
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Backup goalkeeper Jeff Attinella made nine saves, including several spectacular first-half stops in Real Salt Lake's scoreless draw with short-handed Sporting Kansas City.
Sporting (2-1-2) had to play a man down after the 83rd minute, when midfielder Uri Rosell was issued a straight red card for a hard foul on Devon Sandoval, but Salt Lake (2-0-3) couldn't convert on the opportunity.
Sporting's Eric Kronberg needed to make only one save for his second shutout, as Kansas City recorded a 20-5 advantage on total shots.
Real was without regular goalkeeper Nick Rimando, who hurt his knee in the United States' 2-2 draw with Mexico on Wednesday night. Right back Tony Beltran was also out Saturday after injuring his ankle in the US-Mexico game.
RAPIDS 2, WHITECAPS 1
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Jose Mari scored a pair of goals three minutes apart in the second half and Colorado came back to beat Vancouver.
Mari scored in the 79th and 82nd minutes shortly after Matias Laba was sent off for a deliberate hand ball that was his second yellow. He had been booked for a foul in the 54th, too.
Two minutes later, Mari sliced home a left-footed shot off the goalpost from the left flank. With the Whitecaps still reeling from that goal, Mari put a chip shot from the top of the box over Vancouver defenders and stunned Whitecaps goalkeeper David Ousted.
The Rapids were without strikers Vicente Sanchez and Edson Buddle, who chose not to play on the artificial turf in Vancouver.
D.C. UNITED 2, REVOLUTION 0
WASHINGTON (AP) - Andrew Dykstra earned a shutout in his first MLS start in nearly four years and D.C. United snapped a 15-match winless streak with a victory over New England.
Substitute Chris Rolfe scored in second-half stoppage time to ensure the victory after United (1-2-1) went ahead late in the first half on an own goal by New England defender Jose Goncalves.
It was United's first win of the season and Rolfe scored his first goal of 2014 after being traded from the Chicago Fire this week. United's winless streak dated to last August.
The Revolution (1-3-1) have scored just twice this season while being shut out in four of their five matches.
TORONTO FC, CREW 0
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Michael Bradley's goal in the 11th minute was enough for Toronto FC to end the Columbus Crew's unbeaten run.
Bradley scored from a bad angle, beating goalkeeper Steve Clark at the near, right post with a shot taken 2 yards from the end line. Substitute Issey Nakajima-Farran added a goal in the 85th minute off a cross by Justin Morrow.
The goal for Bradley was his second in MLS and first with TFC (3-1-0) in his fourth game. His other league goal was Oct. 16, 2005, while with New York.
FIRE 2, UNION 2
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) - Juan Luis Anangono headed in the tying goal from a difficult angle in the 86th minute and Chicago earned its fourth straight draw.
The Fire are winless in five matches (0-1-4), while Philadelphia (1-1-3) collected its second tie in a row.
Philadelphia scored twice in a seven-minute span during the first half to erase Chicago's 1-0 lead on Mike Magee's goal in the 16th minute.
Leonardo Fernandes scored on a 30-yard free kick in the 39th minute to give the Union a 2-1 lead and Maurice Edu connected for the Union from 6 yards out in the 32nd minute to tie it at 1-1.
RED BULLS 2, IMPACT 2
MONTREAL (AP) - Felipe Martins scored in the 60th minute and Montreal rallied for a 2-2 draw with New York.
Andres Romero also scored for Montreal (0-3-2), which picked up a point for a second week in a row but remains without a victory under new coach Frank Klopas.
Jonny Steele and Peguy Luyindula had goals for the Red Bulls (0-1-4), who have tied four in a row.
