Lady Jays fall to Ozark

The Ozark Lady Tigers posted a 22-25, 25-16, 25-16 win over the Jefferson City Lady Jays on Monday at Rackers Fieldhouse.

Abbi McKnelly racked up 10 kills and 13 digs for the Lady Jays, while Becca Sturgess added eight kills and Mallory York had 16 digs. Maggie Albert handed out 12 assists and Madison Bond had four blocks.

In the JV match, Ozark notched a 22-25, 26-24, 25-23 victory.

Mary Vandelicht paced Jefferson City with nine kills and 10 digs, while Mary Wehmeyer had 10 kills.

Ozark also took the freshman match 25-16, 25-19. Janice Steacy had nine service points for the Lady Jays.

On Saturday, the varsity squad went to the Blue Springs South Tournament and emerged with a 3-3 record.

The Lady Jays opened the day with a 25-22, 25-19 loss to Springfield Kickapoo. Nerinx Hall then posted a 25-19, 19-25, 25-15 win against Jefferson City.

The Lady Jays bounced back to win three straight matches, topping Blue Springs South (22-25, 25-18, 25-21), O'Hara (25-16, 25-12) and Nixa (25-19, 25-22).

Blue Springs South then beat Jefferson City 25-15, 20-25, 25-23.

McKnelly racked up 58 kills for the day, while Sloan Pleus had 31 and Sturgess had 26. Madison Bond chipped in with 34 kills and 12 blocks.
