Lady Jays get volleyball victory

LEBANON - The Jefferson City Lady Jays blasted Lebanon 25-14, 25-10 in volleyball action Monday night.

Abbi McKnelly racked up 11 kills for the winners, while Madison Bond had six kills and six blocks.

Also for Jefferson City, Mallory York had 15 digs and Maggie Albert handed out 26 assists.

The Lady Jays (10-7-2) are now off until playing Saturday in the Blue Springs South Tournament.

Over the weekend, the Lady Jays went 3-2-1 at the Lee's Summit North Tournament.

In their opener, Lee's Summit North beat Jefferson City 25-22, 26-24. Jefferson City then split with O'Hara 25-21, 22-25.

The Lady Jays then ripped off three straight wins, beating Winnetonka (25-10, 25-11), Liberty North (25-21, 26-24) and Truman (26-28, 25-16, 25-19).

The Lady Jays then dropped a 25-15, 25-18 decision to Oak Park.

McKnelly racked up 41 kills and 15 digs in the event, Bond had 28 kills, Albert had 106 assists and York had 19 digs.

The Jefferson City JV team captured a 25-18, 25-17 win Monday night at Lebanon.

Mary Vandelicht had six kills and 10 service points for the winners, while Kara Caby also had six kills. Jenna Massie dished out 17 assists for Jefferson City (16-3).

On Saturday, the Lady Jays captured the title of their own Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournament.

The Lady Jays emerged as the first overall seed after pool play, where they beat Eldon 25-11, 25-10; dropped Waynesville 25-16, 25-12; and downed Fulton 25-10, 25-12.

Jefferson City then started out tournament play with a 25-10, 25-8 win over Fulton. Vandelicht had 17 service points, Mary Wehmeyer had nine kills and Massie had 15 assists.

The Lady Jays then topped Fatima 25-14, 25-18. Wehmeyer had seven kills and two blocks for the winners, Massie had 17 assists, Nicole Martin added three blocks and Amy Turner had seven service points,

In the championship game, Jefferson City beat Helias 25-16, 17-25, 25-20. Wehmeyer had 10 kills and three blocks, Vandelicht had eight digs and Amy Turner had nine service points.

The Jefferson City freshman team captured a 25-18, 25-22 victory Monday night at Lebanon.

Maddie Stone had seven kills for Jefferson City, Katelyn Runzi had 16 assists and Janice Steacy had six digs.

The Lady Jays (10-4) will play today at California.
