Your Opinion: Wealthy residents push conference center

Dear Editor:

Congratulations are in order to the rich and wealthy of Jefferson City. Once again, despite the fact that the voters were opposed to paying for a conference center, we're gonna do it anyway.

Despite the fact that we have conference center type meeting space at the Capitol Plaza hotel and the Truman Hotel, among many other places, we're gonna do it anyway. Once again, the rich and influential have the power to make themselves richer and they're gonna use it. All of this is sold on the fact that it will create jobs and bring more people to the capital city. So, congratulations are in order.

You know what creates jobs though? People having money. People being able to buy things, go places and do things. Yet, our elected officials from the top to the bottom think that constantly increasing what we pay in taxes is the way to make things better. They don't know how to do anything other than spend and why not? It isn't their money.

Who does this new conference center benefit? It benefits the rich, themselves, the hotel and business owners in this town who have been cutting jobs left and right because people aren't paying for or buying their products. After all, who needs to sell anything if all they have to do is influence their local friendly politician into making things easier for them. Why make things easier on the consumer when that just requires you to hire more people to accommodate them?

So, once again, congratulations influential and rich of Jefferson City.

You continue to prove that the American way is alive and well. Regardless of how poor the citizenry gets from their lack of and decreasing discretionary incomes and the increasing need for people to have to decimate their 401k's in order to just get by, the rich will always get their way and the government will always be assured that tax dollars are unending and ever increasing.
