Jays upend No. 4 Marquette in soccer

CHESTERFIELD - The Jefferson City boys soccer team needed to work overtime Saturday, but a big victory was worth the wait.

The Jays upset the state's fourth-ranked team, the Marquette Mustangs, in a match so tight it had to go to sudden-victory penalty kicks.

When it was all over, the Jays emerged with a 2-1 win after the penalty kicks went to seven shooters.

Marcus Woodruff scored the regulation goal for the Jays.

Alex Hilke picked up the win in goal for Jefferson City, as he saved three penalty kicks in the shootout.

The Jays, who improved to 3-0, host Rolla at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Jefferson City lost Saturday's JV match 1-0.
