Your Opinion: Response to Horstmann on Constitution

Dear Editor:

I read Mr. Horstmann's letter in which he hopes that I learn that Supreme Court decisions are "due to the corruptive influence of ideology." I would suggest that Horstmann read the Federalist Papers.

There was much opposition to the new Constitution and much of that centered around the powers given to the federal courts and especially the Supreme Court. It is discussed why it is so vital that some one in the constitutional framework must have the final say as to what the Constitution means.

Most of Horstmann's arguments originated at that time and were rejected as the Constitution was approved. As far as how the court reach their decisions, I believe that with a law degree and over 50 years as a practicing attorney, including being enrolled to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, I have a very clear understanding of the legal process and it's decisions.
