EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man was sentenced to 26 years in prison after admitting he played a role in a 2006 shooting that killed a Missouri man.
Thirty-four-year-old Armondo Valdespino pleaded guilty in Madison County to first-degree murder in the shooting death of Christopher Olson.
Authorities say Olson was a roofer from Portage Des Sioux, Missouri when he was found beaten and repeatedly shot in June 2006.
A judge has ordered Valdespino to be credited for time already served in jail.
A co-defendant, 37-year-old Joseph Gasperoni, was convicted in 2008 in the killing and is serving a 38-year sentence.
Valdespino's trial was to have begun Oct. 7.
