Fulton couple pleads guilty after putting child in car trunk

A Fulton couple, arrested in May in Jefferson City for putting their grandchild in the trunk of their car, have pleaded guilty to amended charges against them.

Mary and Marc Vaucher each pleaded to an infraction of failure to secure a child less than 40 pounds.

They paid a $50 fine, plus court costs.

The Vauchers had been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The child, who was unharmed, was released to another family member's custody.

Police reports show officers were dispatched to Menards, 805 Stone Creek Drive, for a child endangerment call.

According to the caller, she heard a voice from within the trunk of a car that had pulled into the lot and what sounded like a child's voice frantically yelling, "Let me out."

The caller observed the Vauchers exit the vehicle and then open the trunk, at which point a 5-year-old girl climbed out.

Responding officers talked with the Vauchers who said they purchased two tables at another location and did not have enough room to place the tables in the trunk.

They said they placed their granddaughter in the trunk to allow for transport.
