Jefferson City hosts inaugural Capital City Challenge

The Jefferson City Lady Jays were second, while the Fatima Comets and Lady Comets and Russellville Indians and Lady Indians won their respective divisions Friday at the inaugural Capital City Challenge at the Oak Hills Golf Center.

The Lady Jays, led by Emily Deeken’s second-place finish, totaled 63 points to finish behind Marquette (45) in the six-team Class 4 division. Other top finishers for the Lady Jays included Lindsey Biesemeyer (ninth) and Tori Bonnot (11th).

On the boys side, Jefferson City was fifth among eight teams with 102 points. Glendale won with 51 points, four better than Eureka.

Eli Jacobs was 10th to lead the Jays.

The Fatima boys placed five runners among the top 10 in the Class 2 boys division to take the title with 23 points in an eight-team field.

Ross Schanzmeyer took first overall for the Comets. Hunter Hennier was third, followed by Tom Zeilman (fourth), Cody Huhn (sixth) and Austin Muenks (ninth).

The Lady Comets totaled 25 points to best three other Class 2 girls teams.

Riley Caminiti finished third to lead four Lady Comets to finish in the top six. She was followed by Alexis Peters (fourth), Abby Sturtz (fifth) and Madison Day (sixth).

In Class 1, Alex M. Thompson of Russellville was the overall winner as the Indians scored 19 points to top two other boys teams.

Grace Young captured individual Class 1 girls honors for Russellville, the lone full team to compete Friday.

Eldon ran in the Class 3 boys and girls races. The Mustangs finished fourth on the boys side and fifth in the girls race.
