Jays win in Gateway Classic

ST. LOUIS - The Jefferson City Jays posted a 1-0 victory against Legend (Parker, Colo.) High School in the Gateway City Soccer Classic.

Marcus Woodruff tallied the lone goal of the contest, assisted by Aaron Crane.

Alex Hilke got the shutout in goal for the Jays (9-2), who will play nationally ranked Washburn (Kan.) Rural in the consolation final at 11 a.m. today at DeSmet High School.

On Thursday, the Jefferson City Jays opened the Classic with a 3-2 loss in penalty kicks to Belleville (Ill.) West.

Woodruff scored both goals for the Jays, with Logan Horn getting the assist on both.

Jefferson City goalkeeper Zach Brooks gave up both goals before leaving with a broken thumb. Hilke replaced him in goal for the shootout.
