LU's Williams places

At NCAA Division II Cross Country Regional

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Lincoln University's Twishana Williams finished 17th out of 203 runners Saturday at the NCAA Division II Central Regional.

Williams finished the 6K race, which was hosted by Augustana University, in 21:55.59. The result will earn Williams her third United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region award of her career, as the organization honors any runner who finishes among the top-25 at an NCAA regional meet.

Lincoln finished with 557 points to finish 21st in the 30-team event. Also running for the Blue Tigers were Willomena Williams (121st, 24:00.72), Monique Thompson (133rd, 24:19.58), Cynthia Halbert (143rd, 24:32.26) and Akeeba Rose (152nd, 24:46.02).

The Blue Tigers earned 557 team points to finish 21st in the field. Minnesota-Duluth won the regional with 72 points, Southwest Baptist took second with 110 and the host school took third with 116. The top three teams earned automatic bids to the NCAA Division II Championships, which will be held Nov. 23 in Spokane, Wash.

Helping Southwest Baptist advance was Briana Watson (Jefferson City High School), who came in 18th (21:57.75).

Also competing at the meet, Missouri Southern's Adelene Mengwasser (Chamois High School) placed 42nd (22:33.93) and teammate Lizzy Kirby (California High School) came in 105th (23:37.88).

In the men's portion of the meet, Missouri Southern's William Rush (Linn High School) placed 70th (33:51.35) and Northwest Missouri State's David Nilges (Linn High School) placed 110th (34:35.37).
