Families invited to Internet Safety Night

The Jefferson City Public Schools will host an Internet Safety Night from 6-7:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

Det. Andy Anderson — coordinator of the Boone County Sheriff Department’s Cyber Crimes Task Force — will present an overview of Internet crimes, child “grooming,” child pornography, social networking, cyber bullying and sexting.

Anderson has investigated sex crimes and crimes against children for more than 25 years and he has been investigating Internet crimes for 14 years.

The event is open to all families in the Jefferson City area; however, Anderson is very direct and specific when talking about these issues and some of the information shared may not be appropriate for younger children. Parents, teens and older children are encouraged to attend.

The event is a joint presentation of the counseling department and the district’s Technology and School-Community Relations offices.
