NEW BLOOMFIELD — Alec Shoop’s two big hits sent Linn to the Class 2 District 8 Tournament championship.

Shoop blasted a pair of home runs for his team-leading four RBI to lead third-seeded Linn past second-seeded Tipton 15-9 on Tuesday night in the district semifinals.

Shoop wasn’t the only offensive star for the Wildcats, as Linn racked up 18 hits. Ryan Mantle collected four hits and two RBI, Tony Mebruer had three hits and an RBI, Eathan Hickey had two hits and two RBI and Cameron Laughlin, Jake Mebruer and Kyle Nolting all recorded two hits and an RBI.

Mantle picked up the win, tossing five innings and allowing three hits while striking out nine.

Linn (14-5) plays the Russellville-New Bloomfield winner at 6 p.m. today for the district title.
