Lincoln golfers maintain lead

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Lincoln Blue Tigers will take a 13-shot lead into today's final round in the men's NCAA Division II portion of the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship.

Lincoln has a two-day total of 596 with 18 holes remaining today. Texas A&M Internatonal trails at 609, while Virginia State is third in the eight-team field at 619.

Lincoln was led in Saturday's second round by junior Nick Goeke, who shot a 72.

"I was able to hold it together all day and made a few birdies on the back nine to get back to even par," Goeke said. "The wind was really picking up, especially on the back nine, so it felt good to help the team out with a good score. It was important for us to keep the lead going into tomorrow."

Goeke has a two-day total of 148. Steven Mallow leads Lincoln at 146 (71-75). Austin Wheeler is at 150 (72-78), while Eric Kosmatka has a 156 (76-80) and Kenny Conrad has a 157 (81-76).

On the women's side, Lincoln improved by 17 shots as a team Saturday and moved to sixth place at 671.

Blue Tiger golfers include Kaitlyn Schwartze (82-78-160), Payton Schooler (86-77-163), Sophie Pardalos (85-82-167) and Kara Harwood (91-90-181).

Bethune-Cookman leads the women's division at 592.
