JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri has confirmed four new cases of chronic wasting disease in deer in a north-central part of the state.
The state Conservation Department said Tuesday the four free-ranging deer were among about 100 deer killed in January and February in the 29-square-mile chronic wasting disease core area in Linn and Macon counties.
The four new cases bring the state's total confirmed cases of the disease to 10. All have been found in the small section of Linn and Macon counties.
Chronic wasting disease is a neurological disease spread among deer through physical contact or contact with soil containing the waste of an infected deer.
