Jefferson City splits pair of baseball games

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Jefferson City Jays took their first loss of the season Wednesday. They then responded with a dominant outing later in the day.

Jefferson City dropped a 9-7 decision to Fox Lane (N.Y.) in the morning before taking down Westwood (Fla.) 15-3 in the afternoon.

Despite banging out 12 hits, the Jays dropped Wednesday's opener to Fox Lane. Dylan Brauner went 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Brenden Ogletree went 2-for-4 and Rylie Klosterman went 2-for-3.

Steven Coots took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits in three innings of work. He struck out three. Cameron Carroll followed with 1 1/3 innings of relief before Adam Gruden threw 2 2/3 innings.

Jefferson City finished the day on a high note by taking down Westwood in a five-inning contest. Bret Jaegers picked up the win by tossing four innings and allowing one earned run on two hits with six strikeouts. Sam Atkinson tossed the final inning and allowed one hit to go along with two strikeouts.

Jake Pridgin went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI and Travis Burris went 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Jefferson City (6-1) closes out its Florida trip today with a game against Carter out of Knoxville, Tenn
