Jefferson City has announced the appointment of Jason Turner to interim fire chief.
Turner, who served as division chief of prevention for the Fire Department, will begin his interim role today. He is replacing outgoing chief Bob Rennick, who retires from the department today after more than 30 years as chief.
Turner said he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“The challenge of the fire department is making sure that we continue to protect the community, provide the best services that we can and make sure that our firefighters are safe,” Turner said.
According to a news release, Turner has served in fire administration in Jefferson City for 16 years and serves as the department’s public information officer.
“Jason is a natural fit as interim fire chief due to his 16 years of service in Jefferson City fire administration,” said City Administrator Nathan Nickolaus in the release. “I have every confidence he will serve the city well in this position.”
The city has no immediate plans to fill the position permanently, said Michelle Gleba, communications manager.
Turner, who earns a $58,500 salary, will receive a 10 percent pay increase in the interim position.
