2 wrecks close I-70 near Columbia
Friday, June 28, 2013
COLUMBIA (AP) — Police say two separate accidents closed sections of Interstate 70 near Columbia on Friday.
In the first accident Friday morning, a truck and tanker carrying anhydrous ammonia overturned on the interstate near Columbia, closing the eastbound lanes for just over an hour. Police and fire officials said none of the chemical spilled. The driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials say the tank was carrying 7,300 gallons of anhydrous ammonia and all of it was contained. Columbia Fire Department Battalion Chief Brad Fraizer said about 20 gallons of diesel fuel leaked but was immediately contained.
Later Friday morning, another crash on the interstate west of Columbia briefly closed eastbound lanes of the interstate. Details of that accident were not immediately available.
