Chancellor named for new online Mo. university

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri's new online university has its first chancellor.

Western Governors University of Missouri has selected Allen Goben to serve as its leader.

Goben comes from to the school after serving as president of Heartland Community College in Normal, Ill. He also previously was president of Hazard Community and Technical College in Kentucky.

Western Governors University, known as WGU, is an online-only school that also is available in other states. Missouri's subsidiary was announced earlier this year by Gov. Jay Nixon.

The nonprofit university offers more than 50 bachelor's and master's degree programs in fields such as business, education, health professions and information technology.
