JC man gets 10 years for bank holdup

A Jefferson City man charged with robbing Bank Star One in New Bloomfield in October 2012 was sentenced this week to 10 years in prison.

Gary Coleman, 49, was found guilty of one count of second-degree robbery following a court trial in May.

Coleman fled to Texas after the robbery and was eventually caught in San Antonio this past January.

Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said the airing of still images and security video from the robbery by local media gave them tips to determine Coleman was the suspect.

According to Crane, Coleman has two prior felony convictions: One in 1993 in Boone County for possession of a controlled substance and one in 1999 for forgery, also out of Boone County.
