Pavilion, parking, statues planned at County Park

Some new additions will be coming to County Park, near the Jefferson City Jaycees Cole County Fairgrounds, after the Cole County Commission approved two measures on Thursday.

The first is a park pavilion to be constructed just off County Park Road, near County Park Lake.

There already is a parking lot at the site, but more parking space is included with the pavilion project.

The estimated cost for the work is $11,000 and the money would come from the county's general revenue fund.

Commissioners also gave their approval to a plan to place two steel statues along the Jefferson City High School 5K cross country course.

Concepts of the statues were shown to the commission. One is of a cross country runner and the other depicts a pony express type rider and his horse.

Other statues may be placed along the course in the future and the money to pay for these is coming from the cross country booster club.
