Your Opinion: Response to Haslag on rich, poor states

Dear Editor:

In typical liberal fashion Robert Haslag, in his May 29 letter, is again trying to cover for failed liberal Democrat policies by distorting and ignoring the facts to discredit conservative Republican policies. I’m not sure why he has targeted Mississippi but he apparently has particular disdain for that state.

If Haslag were interested in real world facts, he might want to read the latest American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) “Rich States, Poor States” report dated May 23. This report rates the states using 15 factors, some of which were minimum wage laws, labor policies, and rates of taxation. A news item on this report can be seen on http://www.wsls.com/story/22404860/american-legislative-exchange-council-releases-new-rich-states-poor-states-report.

For those not computer savvy, the top 10 ten states are: Utah, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Virginia, Arizona, Idaho, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi. Please note, Mr. Haslag, that Mississippi is 10th and all 10 states voted for the Republican Party. The bottom 10 states are: Maine, Montana, Connecticut, Oregon, Rhode Island, Minnesota, California, Illinois, New York, Vermont.

The report shows that over a 10-year period, the nine states without personal income taxes have outperformed the nine states with the highest income tax rates in population, job and revenue growth. Please note, Mr. Haslag that numbers 47, 48, 49 and 50 are the most liberal Democrat controlled states there are and probably have the highest tax rates in the nation. Maybe Haslag should consider moving to Los Angeles, Chicago or New York since they must be utopian places to live by liberal Democrat standards. They must be the best since they are the antithesis of Mississippi.

Of course, facts mean nothing to liberal Democrats since their total political commitment is to achieve and maintain power and control over our lives. How are the best ways to do that? Keep putting down anyone who wants freedom from an oppressive government, to keep more of their own hard-earned money and maintain their self-respect. The other way of course is to make slaves of those who they can lure into the depths of despair by creating an economy where one has no option but to accept government handouts. Isn’t this where Obama and the liberal Democrats have and are taking us?

Uh oh! Now I bet I’ll be an IRS target?

God help us!
