Your Opinion: Obama sounds false alarm on climate change

Dear Editor:

Is Obama just ignorant or is he a liar?

In a November 2012 press conference, and again at a Chicago fundraiser in May, he made the claim that temperatures around the globe are increasing faster than predicted.

This is an outright lie.

Between 1997 and 2012 temperature increases have only been about 50 percent of those projected by the alarmist greenies who are seeking to suck up even more of our tax dollars for research.

On July 18 Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., chaired the "Climate Change: Its Happening Now" hearing. Sen. David Vitter, R-La., asked, "Can any witnesses say they agree with Obama's statement that warming has accelerated during the past 10 years?"

Only Democratic witness, Heidi Cullen, even attempted a response. After trying to change the subject she finally acknowledged that warming has slowed, not accelerated. Minutes later, in an effort to be sure no one misunderstood the previous question, Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., repeated Obama's claim and then asked, "Do any of you support that quote?" Not one of the Democrat's experts was willing to support Obama's claims.

Boxer started the hearing stating, "Predictions of climate change are coming true right before our eyes."

Sen. Vitter produced a 21-page report titled, "Critical Thinking on Climate Change." The report states that we have had 40 years to monitor the accuracy climate change alarmists. Ninteen pages of the report are dedicated to stating predictions made by the alarmists and showing that they were inaccurate. Al Gore's laughable 2008 claim that "the entire north polar ice cap will be gone in five years" is just one of the claims made by climate alarmists.

Comments made by Roy Spencer, who has served as NASA's Senior Scientist for Climate Studies, were quite interesting. He noted that the conference could have been titled "Climate Change: It Has Happened Before."

He noted that the northern hemisphere has experienced similar warming periods during the Medieval Warm Period of 1000 years ago, or the Roman Warm Period of 2,000 years ago.

I wonder how much CO2 was released by coal fired power plants over 1,000 years ago?
