Your Opinion: Beware efforts to bail out Detroit

Dear Editor:

If you don't want the federal government borrowing more money, money that it won't ever repay, (borrowed money that your children and grandchildren will be forced to pay interest on) to bail out Detroit, you better contact your federal senators and representative.

Politicians are already floating ideas on how they can funnel our tax dollars into Detroit by calling it something other than a bail out.

Without a loud cry from us they will find a way to make it happen. Once it starts with Detroit it will continue to other cities who have been fiscally irresponsible.

One of Detroit's politicians has already reminded Obama that he got a lot of votes from Detroit, and that he better reward them for those votes. We are all aware that both Democrats and Republicans use our tax dollars to "buy" votes, by bribing voters with government handouts. Self-serving politicians who use our tax dollars to "buy" votes is the reason our economy is in shambles.

If Jefferson City residents had to pay for Jefferson City services, if Cole County residents had to pay for Cole County services, if Missouri residents had to pay for Missouri; instead of much of the foolishness being funded by "free money" from D.C., our economy would not be in such a mess.

By the way, read about the type of guy Detroit voters re-elected as Mayor twice at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwame_Kilpatrick.

If those in Michigan want to bail out Detroit, it should be their choice. If those who don't live in Michigan think Detroit should be helped they should get out their checkbooks and send Detroit a check. It is not the federal governments job to steal my, or your, hard-earned money and force me bail out the irresponsible and corrupt.

By the way, at least half of the people in Detroit are already on welfare. We are already supporting them. Enough is enough.
