Ashland mayor steps down, moving to Texas

ASHLAND, Mo. (AP) - A central Missouri mayor has resigned because he is getting ready to move to Texas and doesn't have enough time to devote to city business.

Mayor Michael Jackson previously said he planned to leave the city after he retired from Kraft Foods, and on Monday he sent a letter to members of the Ashland Board of Aldermen announcing his retirement, effective immediately.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1bGCdLr) Jackson's departure is the latest in a string of changes to leading positions in the Ashland city government. The board voted in May not to retain the city administrator, police chief and attorney and has not yet named replacements.

Aldermen Calvin Crandall and Randy Wyatt also have stepped down from their positions this year.
