A Jefferson City man has been charged with assaulting a woman earlier this week in the 500 block of East Atchison Street.
James Duhart, 21, is also charged with first-degree tampering and resisting arrest.
A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows the victim said Duhart pulled her hair, punched her in the face numerous times and kicked her in the face following an argument.
Bruising on the victim's face was consistent with the story she gave.
Duhart also took the victim's vehicle and left the area.
Officers eventually found the vehicle parked in the 100 block of Bolton Drive, and Duhart was hiding in the area.
While taking Duhart into custody, he attempted to kick and spit on officers.
He was being held on $150,000 bond in the Cole County Jail.
