SEC names Whitworth to oversee men's basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Southeastern Conference has named Mark Whitworth to the newly created position of associate commissioner for men's basketball.

The SEC announced the appointment Wednesday for Whitworth, who has worked for the league for 25 years. He had been associate commissioner for external affairs, serving as the liaison with the men's basketball coaches and working with the SEC's media partners.

Commissioner Mike Slive said Whitworth "will be a full time advocate for and effectively manage our efforts to promote and enhance SEC basketball."

Whitworth will oversee the conference tournament, coordinate nonconference scheduling, prepare the conference schedule and work closely with media partners on basketball.
