Kelly hopes to be full-time starter for Cardinals

Called into action last year because of an injury to Jamie Garcia, Joe Kelly left a good first impression with the Cardinals.

Now, he's hoping that work lands him a full-time spot in the 2013 starting rotation.

"I'm going in as a starter but if all else fails, go to the bullpen," Kelly said during the team's stop Friday night on the Cardinals Caravan at Missouri Farm Bureau. "I've shown I can pitch out of the bullpen and be effective. It's just as long as I'm with the team I'm going to be happy."

Kelly is pushing to become a full-time starter this season after spending time between the rotation and the bullpen last season. He said he was told by manager Mike Matheny he'd have a chance to compete for a spot in the rotation during spring training.
