JC man gets 30 years in rape case

A Jefferson City man was sentenced to 30 years in prison, Tuesday, after an Osage County jury found him guilty in connection with a rape case from June 2010.

The case of Clifton Sparkling, 24, 1009 Elizabeth St., was heard last December at the Cole County Courthouse.

The sentencing occurred before Judge Jon Beetem.

Sparkling was charged with forcible rape, kidnapping, forcible sodomy and armed criminal action.

He was charged after a Holts Summit woman, then 22, told Jefferson City police she had been raped at knifepoint in an upstairs apartment in the 400 block of East Capitol Avenue.

The victim also reported she was held against her will for several hours before she was driven to Holts Summit where she was able to notify authorities of the assaults.
