Kroger is warning its customers to be wary of an offer to give away a $250 "Kroger gift card" circulating on Facebook.

The questionable offer purports to reward participants who click on a link to take a survey. It's being spread with the help of unwitting Facebook users who are unaware that it's unauthorized.

"This giveaway is not affiliated with or supported by the Kroger Co.," a company-issued advisory stated. "We recommend not engaging with the site or providing personal information. Our team is actively working to address the issue."

The Cincinnati-based company, which operates its namesake stores as well as Gerbes, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Dillon's and other chains, is the nation's largest traditional supermarket operator.
