Football team adds five next semester

Five student-athletes will enroll early at the University of Missouri and play football for the Tigers, it was announced Thursday.

With the exception of Logan Cheadle, a cornerback from Lee's Summit West High School, the recruits come to Missouri from four different states.

Also joining the Tigers are offensive lineman Mike Fairchild, cornerback Kenya Dennis, linebacker Brandon Lee, and quarterback Marvin Zanders.

Cheadle helped lead the Titans to the Class 5 state championship by intercepting three passes in a 51-14 win against Parkway Central.

A two-time second team All-State selection, Cheadle finished the 2013 season with 42 tackles (30 solo). He is ranked as the 18th-best prospect in Missouri according to ESPN.com and was ranked as high as No. 11 by Rivals.com.

At 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, Fairchild was one of the top offensive linemen from Kansas in 2013. As a senior at Overland Park's Blue Valley West, Fairchild helped block the Jaguars into the Class 5A state semifinal game.

Fairchild chose Missouri early in the recruiting process after drawing interest from Arkansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma and Tulsa.

Dennis finished his sophomore season at Hinds Community College (Raymond, Miss.) with 31 tackles (25 solo), two fumble recoveries, two pass breakups, one tackle for loss and one interception.

Recently selected as a National Junior College Athletic Association Honorable Mention All-American, Dennis chose Missouri over offers from Arkansas, Auburn, and Southern Mississippi.

One of the top prospects in the country, Lee is ranked by ESPN as the No. 16 outside linebacker in the nation and as the No. 3 player overall in Indiana. At 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, Lee joins the Tigers after receiving interest from Michigan State, Oregon, Indiana, Louisville, Virginia Tech, Minnesota, California, Iowa, Illinois, Penn State and North Carolina.

A highly-regarded dual-threat quarterback prospect from Jacksonville, Fla., Zanders amassed more than 2,500 yards of total offense as a senior in 2013. He completed 130-of-224 passes for 1,866 yards and 22 touchdowns and also ran for 705 yards.

At 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Zanders is ranked as the nation's 36th-best dual-threat quarterback by ESPN.com. He chose Missouri after getting other offers from schools such as Duke, Georgia Tech, Iowa State and Kentucky.
