Your Opinion: Common sense gun laws needed

Dear Editor:

December 14 I believe is the anniversary of the Sandy Hook, Newtown, Conn. massacre.

Twenty dead grade schoolers, five or six dead teachers, a dead mother, I believe an NRA member and of course the killer. And also all the street crime and thousands of guns used in them that happens daily.

Conservatives, Republicans, Tea Party people or whatever they are calling themselves are always bellyaching about Benghazi terrorists and keeping weapons out of their hands and protecting Americans abroad. But here at home common sense background checks, banning high capacity magazines and semi-autos, really auto, just not full-auto, is off limits.

This nation got along for over 80-plus years without 15, 20, 30 and up to 100 round magazines and military style assault rifles. Yes assault rifles. When you fire 20 or 30 rounds at a group of people in a few seconds that is an assault for sure.

The best thing to happen in the 2014 mid-term elections would be to get some lawmakers elected that have the people's interests in mind, not just Wall Street, banks, profits and percentages and arms manufacturers.
