Wintry weather Friday causes three fatality accidents in area

At least two Mid-Missourians died in weather-related traffic accidents Friday, and a St. Louis County man was killed in an Osage County accident.

Cody M. Ricker, 19, Holts Summit, was killed in a mid-day, two vehicle accident on U.S. 54 in Callaway County, at the "Melray" curve just north of the Jefferson City limits and the ABB plant.

The Highway Patrol said Ricker was westbound at 11:45 a.m. when he lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt and it skidded through the median into the eastbound lanes.

His car was hit by an eastbound 2008 Isuzu van driven by Booker T. Simmons, 31, St. Charles. He was taken to St. Mary's Health Center for treatment.

Troopers said Simmons was using his seat belt, but Ricker was not.

The patrol said Boone County Medical Examiner pronounced Ricker's death just a few minutes after the accident.

Also at 11:45 a.m., Jerome R. Hinrichs, 68, Wildwood, was killed in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 50, 1.2 miles east of the Missouri 89 Spur, east of Linn in Osage County.

Troopers said Hinrichs was heading eastbound in a 2004 Dodge Ram, which ran off the right side of the highway, hit a tree and overturned.

Hinrichs was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Health Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m.

Troopers said he was using his seat belt.

In Camden County, Karla S. Brown, 42, Camdenton, died in a 7:55 a.m. head-on collision after her northbound 2008 Chevrolet HHR slid on an ice-covered road, into the path of an oncoming van.

The Patrol said Brown wasn't using her seat belt.

Jeanne I. McIntosh, 43, Linn Creek - the driver of the other vehicle, a southbound 2006 Dodge Caravan - was treated at Lake Regional Hospital for what were called moderate injuries.

Investigators said McIntosh was using her seat belt.

The Highway Patrol's Crash Team will continue the investigation into the accident, which occurred on Route D, one-tenth of a mile west of the Spencer Creek Road intersection.
