Bill would ban Missouri teachers from political activities (VIDEO)

A bill filed by a Lee's Summit Republican would keep educators in Missouri from getting involved in any sort of political activity short of voting.

However, its sponsor, State Sen. Will Kraus, told KMBC-TV that the bill was meant to prevent government resources from being misused for election campaigns and the initial language in the bill is a "starting point." The next regular session of the Missouri General Assembly starts in January.

The bill, SB 576, would modify the state law relating to campaign finance and lobbying ethics. It also would prohibit state elected officials from becoming lobbyists within two years of their leaving office. And it limits gifts to state elected officials to those valued at under $50.
