TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Freshman Aaron Gordon scored 19 points, Nick Johnson and Brandon Ashley added 18 each and No. 2 Arizona beat Texas Tech 79-58 on Tuesday night in the Wildcats' first game since beating Duke to win the NIT Season Tip-off.
Johnson made a career-best 4 3-pointers in 6 attempts. Ashley grabbed 10 rebounds, one shy of his career high.
The Wildcats (8-0) scored the first 10 points of the game and led by 10 points after a sloppy first half. They were up by as many as 23 points in the second half.
Arizona moved up two spots to second in the poll this week after the win over Duke at Madison Square Garden last Friday.
Kader Tapsoba and Jaye Crockett scored 11 points each for the Red Raiders (6-3) and Aaron Ross added 10.
It was the highest-scoring game of the season for Gordon, a freshman who was 7 of 10 from the field but just 4 of 12 from the free throw line. He had eight rebounds as Arizona dominated the boards 43-23. Arizona's T.J. McConnell had 10 assists, one short of his career best.
No. 4 SYRACUSE 69, INDIANA 52
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Trevor Cooney scored 21 points and Tyler Ennis added 17 points and eight assists for Syracuse in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Syracuse (8-0) has won 46 straight nonconference games at home.
After Indiana's Noah Vonleh tied it at 33-all early in the second half, Syracuse went on a 12-0 run to begin to take command.
Syracuse had seven blocked shots, 10 steals and matched the nation's top team on the glass with 29 rebounds.
Indiana (6-2) shot 15 of 41 (36.6 percent) and was 6 of 13 in the second half in getting outscored 36-23.
C.J. Fair finished with 15 points for the Orange.
Vonleh had 17 points for the Hoosiers and Yogi Ferrell added 12, only three in the second half - a 3-pointer with 1:59 remaining.
No. 10 DUKE 79, No. 22 MICHIGAN 69
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Quinn Cook had 24 points and nine assists to lead Duke in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
Freshman Jabari Parker added 15 points to help the Blue Devils (7-2) regroup from last week's loss to Arizona by grinding out a tough win against the Wolverines. Duke didn't shoot the ball well early but frustrated Michigan's offense, turning away every spurt and keeping the Wolverines (5-3) at arm's length much of the game.
Andre Dawkins came in midway through the second half and hit two straight 3-pointers to finally start Duke's clinching run, helping the Blue Devils to improve to 13-2 all-time in the Challenge - by far the best record for a team in either conference - including 6-0 at famously hostile Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Caris LeVert matched his career-high with 24 points for Michigan.
Rodney Hood added 14 points for the Blue Devils, while Mitch McGary finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds for Michigan.
No. 18 UCLA 89, UC SANTA BARBARA 76
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jordan Adams scored 22 points and Kyle Anderson added 21 to lead unbeaten UCLA.
Bryce Alford, the son of UCLA coach Steve Alford, hit a 3-pointer with 8:04 remaining in the second half, snapping a 65-all tie and sparking a 7-0 run.
Alford's 3 was followed by a dunk by Tony Parker and two free throws by Norman Powell. The Bruins (8-0) held the Gauchos (3-3) to nine points the rest of the way.
Alvin Williams, who scored a school-record 39 points in the Gauchos' last game against South Dakota State, had 23 points, just six in the first half which finished tied at 42.
Michael Bryson, who entered the game averaging 12.2 points, had all of his season-high 15 by halftime, thanks to 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range. Kyle Bosworth had nine points in each half and was 5 of 9 from 3-point range.
Alford finished with nine points and the big 3 was his only one of the game.
No. 21 UMASS 69, E. MICHIGAN 57
YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Raphiael Putney scored 15 points, including two high-flying dunks in the final minutes, and Massachusetts won its first game as a ranked team since November 1998.
Trey Davis scored 13 points while Cady Lalanne and Chaz Williams added 12 apiece. Lalanne grabbed 12 rebounds for the Minutemen (7-0).
Putney and Williams connected on an alley-oop pass that resulted in a three-point play with 6:14 left that gave UMass a 54-48 lead, its biggest of the game to that point. They connected again with 2:46 remaining when Putney's one-handed slam gave the Minutemen a 62-55 lead.
Karrington Ward and Daylen Harrison had 11 points each for Eastern Michigan (5-2), which was hosting its first ranked opponent since Wisconsin visited in 1994.
No. 23 IOWA 98, NOTRE DAME 93
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Aaron White scored 20 points and Devyn Marble and Jarrod Uthoff added 17 each for Iowa.
Marble had 13 straight points in the second half for the Hawkeyes (8-1), who bounced back from an overtime loss to No. 14 Villanova with just their third win in 13 Big Ten/ACC Challenge games.
Uthoff made two free throws and threw down an open dunk in the final 37 seconds to help seal the win for Iowa, which scored over 90 points for the third time this season.
Garrick Sherman had a career-high 29 points and Eric Atkins added 23 for Notre Dame (5-2), which lost despite shooting 51.5 percent from the field.
Iowa was even better from the field, shooting 56.9 percent.
