BizBeat: From cakes to cinema

The former downtown Jefferson City location of Chez Monet at 126 E. High Street is being converted to Capitol City Cinema, an independent movie house.

The business' Facebook page said the first phase of the renovations are being completed.

"We've shelled the space, exposed the brick wall and today we begin repairing and refinishing the hardwood floors," the posting said last week.

The business is owned by Jami Wade, who also owns the business next door, Capitol City Cork & Provisions.

We couldn't reach Wade for comment, but the posting said they plan to host fundraisers and other events in conjunction with the new yoga studio that is awaiting renovations at its new home in Old Munichburg.

The posting also said that the projected opening for the cinema is now late November, which is a month later than previously announced.
